The president of Scrats highlights the success of the protest, in which the Transfer and hydrological plans adjusted to the sector were claimed
Water and the defense of the Transfer had their leading role in the march. The Irrigation Union (Scrats) placed a giant banner a few days ago in Puerta del Sol with the slogan ‘In the next pandemic we will eat land’, arguing that if water transfers from the Tagus are reduced by half, it will affect the supply of food and the future of 80,000 irrigators from Levante. A message that was repeated yesterday before the Ministry, as happened last year.
The president of Scrats, Lucas Jiménez, who was accompanied by vice president Javier Berenguer and Manuel Martínez, from Campo de Cartagena, congratulated the organizers for the “brutal success of the demonstration.” «The Government of the nation has to listen to these voices of protest, because they will go further. Many people have attended who had never demonstrated and the presence of many young people has caught my attention. It has been a demanding and playful day at the same time.
The president of Fenacore, Andrés del Campo, defended in front of the headquarters of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition some hydrological plans adjusted to the future of the sector, with more investments to modernize irrigation and undertake hydraulic regulation works that mitigate floods and droughts.

“There has been a turning point; the rural world is now much more essential»
The president of the irrigators of Lorca, Juan Marín, who attended with Adela Martínez-Cachá, said that the different administrations “have been able to make us all angry. This should make us reflect on the policies of the EU and the central government, so that they take urgent measures. A moratorium on green policies is necessary until we have guaranteed food. There has been a turning point and it has been shown that the rural world is more essential than ever.
PP: “Lower taxes”
Fernando López Miras was the only regional president who participated in the protest, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Luengo, and regional and national parliamentarians. Senior officials and MEPs from the PP were also present, such as Esteban González Pons, Cuca Gamarra, Juan Ignacio Zoido and Francisco Núñez, from Castilla-La Mancha, among others.
López Miras said that farmers, ranchers and transporters, “who were considered heroes during the pandemic, have now been forgotten by the Government of Spain and Mr. Sánchez. There is an indiscriminate rise in production costs that makes their farms unviable». He considered that now “it has been shown more than ever that it is essential that we be self-sufficient in food. Following the cruel invasion of the tyrant Putin, we have seen that we cannot depend on third countries. It becomes more important than ever to set the conditions to help the sector and lower taxes.
Vox: «Government of ruin»
Many members of Vox also showed their defense of the rural world. “We support the primary sector in its just demands against this government of ruin and against all its sectarian laws of the 2030 Agenda,” said deputy Luis Gestoso. Provincial President José Ángel Antelo criticized the prohibitive prices of energy “and the misery policy of the Executive. At Vox we are committed to our economy and food sovereignty.
