“Now, the next step is the approval of the IMF board. We look forward to multilateral support. It will bring more stability to Argentina, Latin America and the world,” said Economy Minister Martín Guzmán.
The Senate approved the agreement negotiated between the government of Alberto Fernández and the IMF to refinance debts for some 45,000 million dollars, which had already received the approval of the deputies and which will enter into force when it has the endorsement of the organization.
In an act yesterday, President Fernández considered that the country is at “a pivotal moment” and called for “each one to give up what they have to give up in order to achieve the results that are needed”, after two years of government in which He assured that he and his team “have left everything” of themselves to overcome “very serious problems” in Argentina.
The agreement includes financing for some 45,000 million dollars, a figure equivalent to the disbursements that Argentina received with the “standby” agreement signed in 2018 and which is made up of the amount of maturities still pending provided for in that agreement plus the amount of the amortizations of capital already made between September 2021 and last January.
With the eleven disbursements it receives, Argentina will face the payments up to 2024 provided for in the 2018 program and the remainder will be used to strengthen the Central Bank’s monetary reserves.
