An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale rocked Zhangye City, northwest China’s Gansu Province, Thursday morning.
The new China News Agency (Xinhua) quoted local authorities as saying that there were no immediate reports of injuries.
The China Earthquake Networks Center said the quake occurred at 8:26 a.m. Beijing time, at a depth of nine kilometers.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in a sparsely populated area, about 170 km from Sunan Prefecture.
The residents felt slight tremors at the epicenter and the surrounding areas.
