According to the Helsinki Art Museum, public art is not maintained in the winter. The monument to Urho Kekkonen drowning in the snow has now been experienced.
Finlandia House next to it is a monument to a man who needs no introductions.
President Urho Kekkonen a sculptural ensemble erected in his honor Source has had a stir in the public for a couple of decades, and now the townspeople are talking about the winter maintenance of the sculpture.
Helsinki Antti Eirola your photo as you pass the monument. He said the president’s memorial was under the snow.
“It looked completely unmanageable. The stone with Kekkonen’s name was under the rubble, and the water pool was also in the snow, ”says Eirola.
“It was annoying that the sculpture had been left like this. However, it is a monument to Kekkonen, ”he regrets.
Artist Pekka Jylhän environmental work made by Source was announced on Kekkonen ‘s birthday in September 2000.
The monument consists of a teardrop-shaped pool, water and bronze hands.
The name of Urho Kekkonen is embossed on the rock in the background. The years of the president’s life are carved in the stone on the ground.
The work belongs to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum, or Ham.
Why hasn’t Ham taken care of the book this winter?
Hamin architect Klas Fontell says that the monument has been cared for in the same way this winter as in previous winters: none at all.
“The Helsinki Art Museum has a lot of public art that falls under the snow in winter. I’ve been working in the city for 25 years, and I can’t think of any artwork being serviced in the winter, ”Fontell says.
Ham does not even know who could do the job, as it has never been agreed.
In heavy snowy winters, all or part of the works, such as Urho Kekkonen’s name in the rock, may be hidden under the snow.
SourceIn the work, Fontell is protected by a separate steel plate before the winter, so shoveling it from the snow would be useless.
Extremely in rare cases, however, Ham intervenes in the winter treatment of his works.
“Sometimes a poorly trained snow plow may have tipped over a snow mountain work,” Fontell says.
“It must have been reacted then that the next bucket loader would not accidentally take the work with it.”
