– Russian cancel culture after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has claimed several victims around the world
*) Not even the stroganoff escaped. In the wake of the wave of rejection of Russia due to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, artists, cultural works and even Russian cuisine have become targets of boycotts around the world.
The Russian cancellation has led, for example, to the Cardiff Philharmonic in Wales to remove works by composer Tchaikovsky from their upcoming concerts.
In Canada, Russian pianist Alexander Malofeev, 20, was withdrawn from the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s performance program, which, according to the English newspaper The Guardian, pondered that his presence would be “inappropriate” at this time and his return will take place “when the context allows”.
There was also the episode at a university in Italy, where a course on the writer Dostoevsky, perhaps the greatest name in Russian literature, was cancelled. The institution backtracked after the negative repercussions.
Russian cancellation is the theme of this episode of 15 Minutes podcast. The guest is the journalist and Gazeta do Povo columnist Paulo Polzonoff Jr.
