PARIS (Reuters) – Some 30,000 tonnes of wheat in France is being loaded onto a ship bound for Egypt, in what traders describe as a rare French sale to the Egyptian private sector, as supplies to importers dwindle due to the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Egypt is one of the largest importers of wheat in the world, and gets most of its imports from Russia, Ukraine and Romania via the Black Sea through the General Authority for Supply Commodities and the private milling sector.
Shipping data showed that the cargo tanker (Clipper D) is being loaded at the port of Rouen in northern France, which is the country’s largest grain export terminal.
France, the largest exporter of wheat in the European Union, supplies the GASC from time to time, but traders say it has not been known in recent years to serve the private sector in Egypt.
