MediaTek formally unveiled its flagship 4nm mobile system-on-a-chip, the SoC Dimensity 9000last November and, although Snapdragon unveiled it Snapdragon 8 Gen 1which was subsequently launched and captured all attention towards 2022, the new data Geekbench 5 show that the offer proposed by MediaTek is by no means weak in terms of performance.
The famous leaker Ice Universein a post on Twitterrevealed i Geekbench 5 scores of a mysterious Xiaomi device that was running the Dimensity 9000 SoC itself, and the results were quite impressive, with our colleagues at Phone Arena who speculate that the phone used for the test could be next Redmi K50 Pro Plus.
As the screenshot in the Ice Universe post reveals, this Xiaomi device scored 4,546 points in the multi-core test and 1,309 points in the single-core test, to get an idea and be able to make a comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with the chip The Exynos 2200 scored 3,307 and 1,157 points in the single-core multi-core tests, respectively, while the Pixel 6 Pro with the custom Google Tensor SoC scored only 2,832 points and 1,042 points in the two tests.
How much it could cost and which devices will have the SoC Dimensity 9000
Although the Dimensity 9000 SoC is yet to appear on smartphones, a couple of devices that will feature this chip are reportedly on the horizon, one of them all. OPPO which is expected to present the Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition in its home region, China.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Redmi K50 Pro Plus will also hit the markets soon, and while it’s hard to tell much from the benchmark scores alone, this could give MediaTek a unique edge in the mobile industry, furthermore Ice Universe also suggests that phones with the Dimensity 9000 SoC could cost around $ 500so the lower cost could convince OEMs to choose MediaTek’s new offering.
It is also worth pointing out that the Dimensity 9000 SoC leverages TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process and new Armv9 architectureon the other hand the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Exynos 2200 use Samsung’s 4nm process, while for what concerns Apple and its A15 Bionic, there is no story as it continues to dominate the benchmark scores.
MediaTek’s latest offering won’t hit US shores as it lacks 5G mmWave support, but phones equipped with the Dimensity 9000 will undoubtedly sell to millions of users in major Asian markets.
It’s been a long wait for phones to mount MediaTek’s new creation, especially as it was announced well before Qualcomm’s offering, with the latter having already officially appeared on multiple devices, including the Moto Edge X30 and the Samsung’s trio of flagships Galaxy S22.
