At the end of September, 99 launched something new for platform users: now the company’s delivery service will rely on vehicles such as small trucks and vans to transport larger objects, up to 1.5 tons.
The service is similar to what the company already offers on the market, allowing the customer to order a car at the time they need the service right on the app, without the need to book with the driver in advance.
The new feature is now available to individuals and legal entities in the regions of São Paulo, Campinas, São José dos Campos, Jundiaí, Sorocaba, Santos and Bragança Paulista. The company hopes to explore strategic routes, covering the Port of Santos and Viracopos Airport, in Campinas.
The number of cars circulating in this system, however, was not disclosed by the company.
According to Luiz Gamper, Director of Delivery Operations at 99, the idea for the service arose from customers’ need to take larger things that could not fit in the trunk of conventional vehicles.
“We studied the market and decided to invest in our new modalities and added three categories to 99 delivery, which are utilities, vans and trucks, the so-called Urban Cargo Vehicles (VUC), which are allowed to move cargo within the city, which is what where we want to occupy”, he stated.
99’s delivery service began in 2021, when demand for this type of service reached a high point due to the covid-19 pandemic. But until then, transport was only carried out by common vehicles. Company data states that 99 Entregas had a growth of 50% in the first half of 2024.
Practicality is the biggest attraction
The ease of calling a large vehicle in a matter of a few hours is the company’s biggest bet to differentiate itself in the delivery market. Gamper also states that practicality can mean that consumers prefer to call a vehicle through the app rather than looking for services from independent trailers or even those they know.
One of the examples that the executive gives are stores that carry out promotions but, due to low prices, do not offer home delivery.
“When you buy large equipment such as refrigerators and washing machines, they often do not fit in a conventional trunk and shipping can be expensive. This service gives you the opportunity to buy and call a vehicle to take your purchase home”, he explained.
Models for companies
The platform offers two adoption models for companies that wish to use the service. The first are specific runs in which the store arranges directly with the customer who wants to have their product delivered. The second would be a model where companies have a certain recurrence of orders and register them in a system where they can make payments via bank slip at the end of the month.
“The first would be a model that we call C2C, from consumer to consumer. It happens when a micro-entrepreneur or a small company has a higher than normal demand on a specific basis, enters our app, quotes a driver, and negotiates the price with the end consumer. And there is a second model in which this would be our Business to Business modality, where the company enters a platform that we have, logs in and manages its orders”, he says.
This Monday, there will be the option to choose another payment method, which can be via bank slip at the end of the month, and features to manage several races at the same time.
