In detail, the First Vice President of the Etihad Water and Electricity Company, Sheikha Murad bin Karam Al Balushi, confirmed to Emirates Al-Youm that Etihad Water and Electricity Company has begun to launch a digital transformation process, with the aim of improving the customer experience and developing the business in a sustainable manner, as the company entered into a partnership in November 2022. A five-year partnership with E&Emirates to replace old meters, enable the advanced infrastructure for smart meters, and link the new smart meters to a digital platform that provides real-time information and alerts about consumption rates.
She said: “Etihad Water and Electricity transferred all its business operations to the global technology company (SAP) cloud, and the use of real-time data has enhanced customer satisfaction, improved employee experience and productivity, increased automation, and increased ease of asset and network management.”
She added: “The smart meter project is the first of its kind in the UAE, and thanks to it, the Union Water and Electricity Company has won many international awards. In April 2020, the Union Water and Electricity Company became the first service utility organization in the region to install an advanced infrastructure system for smart meters.” Two levels using SAP solutions.
She continued: “By providing customers with immediate information about their water consumption, the company confirms its commitment to the National Water Strategy and the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative that was launched recently, as this step leads to reducing water consumption and raising awareness about the possibility of making small changes to make a big difference in water consumption.” Supporting the UAE’s efforts to achieve its goal of achieving climate neutrality.”
She added: “Union Water and Electricity has started implementing a 35% billing system for customers who have been connected, and the company now has 99% smart meters in the Northern Emirates, and we aspire to reach the number to 100% by next year.”
She stated that Union Water and Electricity Company launched a joint initiative with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, to enhance the use of renewable energy sources in the Northern Emirates through the solar energy systems project, so that the project helps the company’s customers to generate electricity from solar energy, by installing solar energy panels on the roofs of their properties, The resulting energy is then transferred to feed the public network.
She explained that this project was allocated to some categories of customers, namely the industrial category, the agricultural category, and the residential category, so that the company provides introductory workshops to customers to explain how to apply for the service and benefit from it, so that the bill is reduced for customers since the installation of these panels.
She expected that the solar panel system would contribute to reducing customers’ bills by up to 50%, so that the customer would benefit from their use, noting that the company had actually begun implementing the solar panel system, and customers had also begun submitting their requests through the company’s approved contractors and consultants, which in turn delivered panels. Provided solar panels to some customers, and organized workshops for them on how to operate them.
She stated that through the distributed solar energy systems initiative, customers can contribute to the total output of renewable energy and benefit from lower energy bills, pointing out that the electrical energy generated from the solar panels installed on the roofs of their homes will be measured and calculated against their energy use, which helps… Reducing overall consumption and promoting sustainable energy practices.
She added: “Union Water and Electricity’s strategy aims to increase the dissemination of clean energy sources and support national sustainability goals in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050. By providing access to renewable energy solutions, the company works to enable its customers to play an effective role in reducing their environmental impact.” And support the UAE’s vision for a cleaner and greener future.”
