The Sharjah Private Education Authority confirmed that 77.7% of students’ families consider tuition fees the most important factor when choosing schools for their children. She said she recently conducted a survey, asking them to rate 38 criteria for choosing schools, across six categories, using a six-point scale.
She added that 77.7% of them put fees at the top of the factors influencing this decision.
The authority stated that nearly half of the students in private schools in the emirate are enrolled in schools whose fees are less than 10 thousand dirhams (46% of the students), followed by schools whose fees range between 10 thousand and 19 thousand and 900 dirhams (30%), then schools whose tuition fees range between 20 One thousand 29 thousand and 900 (13%).
The authority stated in its report on private education – a copy of which “Emirates Today” obtained – that the Emirate of Sharjah includes 127 schools, which are attended by 185,000 students.
According to the report, students with special educational needs and disabilities constitute 1.6% of the total number of enrollments in Sharjah private schools. He stated that more than a third of the students are in Indian curricula schools, and British curricula come in second place with 21% of the total enrollment, while schools attached to the curricula of the Ministry of Education and American curricula schools constitute 18% each.
The report said that the number of private schools in Sharjah increased from 94 schools in 2014 to 127 schools this year, and the schools follow 10 different curricula; It was topped by the curricula of the Ministry of Education with 31 schools, then the British and American curricula with 28 schools, followed by the Indian curriculum with 24 schools, then other curricula offered by 16 schools.
He pointed out that with regard to tuition fees, the occupancy rate for the capacity of the category of less than 10 thousand dirhams is 89%, followed by the category of 30-39.9 thousand dirhams at a rate of 85%, then the category of 10-19.9 thousand at a rate of 84%.
The report added, “It is estimated that the number of students attending schools in the United Arab Emirates will increase from 1.3 million in 2021 to 1.5 million in 2028, according to population projections.”
