Six hours of Imola, Toyota wins
Toyota won the six hours of Imola thanks in particular to the right choice to immediately switch to wet tires after the rain started to wet the track around the fourth hour of the race. Much credit goes to Kamui's great sensitivity Kobayashi but also the performances of his teammates Mike Conway and Nick De Vries they were impeccable, imposing a high pace in every phase of the race and keeping away from the many pitfalls of this race. These are the statements of the three drivers of the Toyota GR010#7 at the end of the race
Kamui Kobayashi
“When it started raining I had to decide whether to switch to wet tires and it was the right decision. Ferrari found itself having to make the same choice but opted for wet tyres. I think in the end ours was the right move at the right time. With the wet track it was easier for the GT3s to take corners than the Hypercars, while on the straight the situation was the opposite. For this reason it was not easy to judge the braking point well and the mistake was just around the corner. However, we weren't sure we would have enough fuel to get to the end so I started fuel saving but Kevin Estre was getting close so I had to start accelerating again. I knew Estre had a 5 second penalty but I still didn't want to let him pass. I don't think our car was the best on track this weekend but we still managed to do an excellent team job.”
Nick de Vries
“I would like to thank my teammates and the team for the phenomenal job they have done. At a strategic level they have always made the right choices. I'm happy with my stint where I made difficult overtaking considering the narrow track. My last win was in Formula E in Berlin in 2022. It's been a while so it's nice for me to get back to winning ways today.”
Mike Conway
“We knew that the start would be complicated due to the risk of accidents but luckily we stayed out of trouble and managed to manage the situation. Nick and Kamui did an incredible job especially Kobayashi in the wet. The conditions were difficult but the team made an excellent strategy.”
