Monterrey is moving in the transfer market to strengthen its squad for the Apertura 2022 tournament of Liga MX. Rayados has tested various options to strengthen his attack, but everything indicates that one of the priorities of the board is the hiring of Brian Rodríguez, a Uruguayan winger who currently plays for LAFC of Major League Soccer (MLS).
These are five things you didn’t know about Brian Rodríguez, the striker Monterrey is looking for to make his attack more dangerous:
The Uruguayan winger came from the basic forces of Peñarol, one of the most important teams in Uruguayan soccer. In an interview that the soccer player gave in November 2019, Rodríguez mentioned that he “was not prepared to leave Peñarol so soon”, but that LAFC’s offer had been very good.
Rodríguez debuted in the Uruguayan senior team in September 2019 under the orders of Professor Óscar Washington Tabárez. At 22 years old, the original element of Tranqueras has played 17 games with his national team and has three goals.
In a strange move, Brian Rodríguez was loaned to Almería, from La Liga Smartbank. At the beginning of 2021, the winger reached the Spanish second division team. He only played 16 games and only gave one assist. He spent four months in Spanish soccer.
In May 2020, when discussing his experience in MLS, Rodríguez indicated that he had a hard time adjusting to American soccer. He also spoke of the shock of playing with great players, like Vela. “I had to play against Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) and it’s something very crazy. As a boy I had a shirt of his. But there are very good players in other teams. I have Carlos Vela as a teammate, he drinks a lot of mate with us”. Regarding his relationship with the Mexican, he indicated: “Carlos seems like one more, he has tremendous humility. When I arrived I thought that he was not going to give me the time, that he was going to be angry about everything, but he is an excellent person (…) He gave me a lot of advice because of my age, because of the money, he told me all the things he sent himself, but now his image has changed and that helps me learn from him.”
Brian Rodríguez is known as ‘Rayito’ for his speed, dexterity and ability to resolve. The Uruguayan is the most expensive signing in the history of LAFC, a club he arrived at for an approximate figure of 10.45 million euros. His goal is to play the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Uruguay.
