Dani de la Orden and Àlex Murrull have completed the filming of ’42 seconds’ in Barcelona and Andorra, a feature film written by Carlos Franco based on the epic true story of the Spanish water polo team, which achieved one of the most impressive sporting feats of the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games. ’42 seconds’ relives the effort, the moments of tension, the suffering, the illusion and the camaraderie of that legendary group that fought in Barcelona 92 for the greatest dream of an athlete: to get on the Olympic podium.
The film is not a documentary but a rigorously true epic fiction starring Jaime Lorente and Álvaro Cervantes, who play the two heavyweights of that national team: Pedro García Aguado and Manel Estiarte, enemies in the water but who after hard training they became friends and accomplices capable of achieving the gold for the selection.
The synopsis narrates how, a few months before the Barcelona 92 Olympics, the Spanish water polo team had all the numbers to pass without pain or glory. They are unprepared and need a hit if they don’t want to make a fool of themselves playing in their own home. That coup comes quickly in the form of a new coach with a reputation for being tough and more than questionable work techniques. As if that were not enough, the team has two leaders facing each other due to their way of understanding this sport: Manel Estiarte and Pedro García Aguado. But thanks to a superhuman effort, teamwork and the support of a whole country, they will show the whole world that you can go beyond where they never imagined.
Both for Dani de la Orden and for Àlex Murrull, who have just started the post-production of the film, the intention of the film is clear: «To bring to the big screen a historical moment of our country such as the Barcelona 92 Olympics. This is the first film to be set in this exciting context, reminding the viewer of experiences that have passed more than 20 years ago and discovering to the youngest a time that due to age they have not lived and that they deserve to know. ’42 seconds’ pays tribute to some legendary athletes who demonstrated that with effort the proposed milestone can be achieved ».
