Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated today the activities of the First International Conference on Sports in Confronting Anti-Social Behaviours, organized by the Sociologists Association over three days with the participation of 17 Arab countries, in addition to France and Canada.
The winners of the Emirates Award for Social and Humanitarian Work were honored in its second session, and they were headed by the late, God willing, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the winner of the Pioneer of Social and Humanitarian Work Medal in appreciation of his charitable giving at the level of the Emirates and the world. The award was received by Mirza Al Sayegh, Vice President of the Al Maktoum Foundation. And honorary member of the Society of Sociologists. Engineer Fathi Afaneh, the golden sponsor of the conference, was awarded the Personality of Supporting Social and Humanitarian Work, in appreciation of his role in social, charitable and voluntary work.
The conference was opened with words by Abdullah Omar, Director of the Public Benefit Association Department at the Ministry of Community Development, Issa Hilal Al-Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, and Dr. Jassim Khalil Mirza, President of the Sociologists Association, President of the Conference, in which they stressed the importance of the conference in supporting the efforts of local and Arab institutions in addressing undesirable behaviors. Abdullah Omar stated that their participation comes as a matter of national and development commitment and positive interaction led by associations of public interest in the Ministry of Community Development, while Issa Hilal mentioned that sports and football in Sharjah began in the late fifties through gatherings in some areas, where it was not established in that Time is any club, except for the Al-Ittifaq Club, which was established by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, the sponsor of the conference in 1958. Then the sports renaissance began after the establishment of the Al-Uruba Club. Hilal raised the highest congratulations and blessings to His Highness, the President of the State, may God protect him, and His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, on the occasion of the country’s celebrations of its golden jubilee. In turn, Dr. Mirza thanked His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, for his sponsorship and support for the conference, which coincides with the country’s celebrations of the Golden Jubilee, the Emirate of Sharjah’s awarding of the child-friendly city title, and the Sociologists’ Association’s celebration of the 40th anniversary of its founding.
The program of the first day included 4 sessions, the first dealt with experiences in social and humanitarian work, and was chaired by Dr. Ali Al Zaabi, Deputy Assistant Director of the University of Sharjah for Branch Affairs – Kalba Branch, in which Mirza Al Sayegh, President of the Al Maktoum Foundation, and Eng. Fathi Afana, Director of Fast Contracting Company and member, spoke Honorary Society of Sociologists, and Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, Executive Director of the Sharjah Charitable Society. The second session, entitled “Sports and Ethics”, was chaired by the media, Saif Al Zaabi, Director of Government Communications at the Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, in which Saleh Ashour, player of the national team and Sharjah Handball Club, Fatima Al Hosani, player of the UAE athletics team, and boxer Issa Mohammed Al-Dah spoke. The third session was entitled “Sports and People of Determination”, headed by Abdulaziz Mustafa from Saudi Arabia, in which Majid Al-Osaimi, Executive Director of the Dubai Club for People of Determination, spoke, followed by Syrian Dr. Isaf and Zubaida Abdulwahab Al-Dabbagh from Iraq.
The activities concluded with a fourth session entitled “Sports in the face of Covid 19”, chaired by Dr. Atta Hassan Abdel Rahim, Director of the Continuing Education Center at Al Qasimia University, in which: Dr. Hala Ibrahim Salem Al-Ablam, Saudi Dr. Moudhi bint Shliweh Al-Anzi, and the Algerian Dr. Maryam Kaddouri spoke, and from Colonel Dr. Ahmed Al Ali, and the conference activities continue today with five other sessions, the first entitled “Sports and its impact on protecting youth from delinquency”, and the second on sports and its role in modifying behavior, and the third deals with the repercussions of sports activity on life, and the fourth is entitled “Positive impact of sports” On the psychological and social aspect”, while the fifth session will be held under the title of treating addiction to sports.
