In May, it is planned to begin production of cars at the former Mercedes-Benz plant in the Moscow region; 360 vehicle kits will be assembled in a month. The general director of the Avtodom dealer holding, Andrey Olkhovsky, spoke about this.
“We are doing everything possible to launch the plant as soon as possible. Already in May, the plant will start assembling the first batch of cars – 360 vehicle kits will be assembled. Now there are many factors influencing the non-stop operation of the plant,” said Olkhovsky, whose words were reported on April 18 by the portal “Drom”.
The top manager did not name the company that will become the plant’s technological partner. Final negotiations on the localization of components will take place at the automobile exhibition in Beijing, which will begin at the end of April, he noted.
The day before, the governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, said that production of Chinese cars would begin at the former Mercedes-Benz site in May.
In April last year, the Avtodom dealer holding closed the deal and bought the Russian assets of Mercedes-Benz. The dealer was taken over by Mercedes-Benz Rus JSC, a plant located near Moscow, a leasing subsidiary and a company engaged in factoring and car insurance.
In January 2024, the general director of Avtodom, Andrei Olkhovsky, said that at the end of 2023, a batch of cars was produced in test mode at the former Mercedes-Benz plant. In 2024, according to his plans, Avtodom is going to produce about 30 thousand cars using the large-unit assembly method. In the future, the company intends to begin small-unit assembly and independently weld and paint the bodies. He did not specify which brands of cars are planned to be produced at the ex-Mercedes-Benz plant.
