Approximately 20 police officers dismantled a housing block in the municipality on Monday in an operation that resulted in 30 detainees, who were charged with various crimes, mainly being in an irregular situation in Spain. Those arrested are accused of violating the Immigration Law.
In the operation, a joint action by the Local Police of Archena and the Immigration Brigade of the National Police, about ten police vehicles participated, including transfer vans, patrol cars and a bus adapted for the transfer of detainees.
The mayor of the municipality, Patricia Fernández, gave a “very positive” assessment of an operation that “we have been organizing for months and whose success lies in discretion and excellent coordination between the City Council and the security forces.” At this point, she described it as “authentic success for the local police and for Velasco as the main commissioner in charge of this massive detention.”
For Fernández “it is essential to understand that this action has not been carried out in isolation, that it is not the first nor the last, but that it is part of a broader Security Plan that we have been developing and that we will continue to execute” to announce that, in the coming days, “we will continue to increase controls and records within the framework of our Security Plan.”
It is worth remembering that a few weeks ago the Local Police also proceeded to evict a squatted building where various criminal acts were allegedly committed. The local councilor regretted that the laws are not “more forceful with people who commit some type of crime and asked that the regulations protect citizens, their well-being and the security forces more.”
