Yesterday, medical sources in the Gaza Strip announced that more than 30 children had died due to famine in the Strip and lack of food.
The source said: The suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip is worsening in light of the continued closure of land crossings and the lack of humanitarian aid.
In turn, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) expected that more than one million people in the Gaza Strip would face famine and death by mid-July.
This came in a statement regarding its early warning report for the period between June and October 2024 regarding places experiencing a hunger crisis and where acute food insecurity is expected to worsen. The FAO report indicated that acute food insecurity will worsen further in 18 places experiencing hunger crises.
He stressed that there is an urgent need to provide urgent aid to prevent hunger, especially in Gaza. Data cited in the report showed that 100% of the Gaza Strip’s population of 2.2 million people are in the third level or above, which is known as “crisis” in the United Nations Integrated Interim Classification of Food Security.
In the statement related to the report, the organization said: “The ongoing conflict in Palestine is expected to exacerbate acute hunger, which is currently classified at a catastrophic level, with famine and deaths, in addition to the displacement of the entire population of the Gaza Strip.” The statement added: “More than one million people may face starvation and death by mid-July.”
The statement quoted the organization’s Director-General, Zhu Dongyu, as saying: “The frightening predictions that the report focuses on should serve as a warning to all of us. Acting before crises can save lives.”
