He is only three years old and now a “mini superhero” for his mom. Little Thomas knew what to do in an emergency – from his favorite series on YouTube.
Sandwell cartoons are fascinating to many children. Parents often have trouble pulling their little ones off the screen. It shouldn’t be a problem for three-year-old Thomas to watch his favorite cartoon series in the future. The British boy saved his mother’s life. Apparently he had learned to dial the emergency number from an unusual source – a YouTube cartoon.
Thomas, 3, called the emergency number after his mother, Kayleigh, fell down the stairs. The 33-year-old was hit with her head and kept losing consciousness, reports the Birmingham Mail. Both were home alone. When his mom stopped answering his questions, Tommy dialed 999 – the UK emergency number. The toddler had previously climbed around a barricade to get to the phone.

The emergency call from Thomas reached headquarters shortly before 2 p.m. on November 12, the West Midlands Police said in a press release. Thomas only said “help” and that his mother was injured. Then it quickly became apparent that his mother had fallen on the stairs, was dazed and had difficulty breathing. Morgane Amphlett, who took the 999 calls at headquarters, encouraged little Thomas to pass the phone to his mother, hold his mother’s hand, and keep her talking until the police and paramedics arrived.
With the mother’s permission, the police released the “Tommy 999 call”. The hope: Encouraging more parents to educate their children about what to do in an emergency. “Just like cops on the street, they can be lifesavers,” said emergency center director Andy Beard. Mama Kayleigh is so grateful to her “mini hero”. Tommy had apparently climbed up on the living room window sill to get the phone.
