Hospitals in Saudi Arabia were able to achieve a record after transferring major organs from brain-dead people within a week and delivering them urgently to 14 patients.
And a Saudi news report said: The medical staff at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah managed to convince the relatives of a brain-dead person to donate his organs, to transplant them to patients with terminal organ failure.
The report added that 5 cases benefited from the donation, the first of which was a heart transplant for a 10-year-old girl whose medical condition was very critical and contributed to saving her life, and another for a 14-year-old girl who was donated her right kidney and has been on the waiting list for more than seven years, while a transplant was performed The left kidney of a 38-year-old patient who ended his suffering from kidney failure, and a liver transplant for a 59-year-old woman who was on the urgent waiting list for liver transplantation, in addition to a lung transplant for a 23-year-old girl whose health condition was very critical.
In the Al-Jouf region, the specialized medical teams at Prince Mutaib bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Sakaka were able to transfer brain-dead organs to four citizen patients, where a liver transplant was performed for a 17-year-old patient, who was in a very critical medical condition, which contributed to saving her life, while the liver was transplanted. The right kidney for a 52-year-old patient, and the left kidney transplant for a 57-year-old patient are both on the waiting list, and the lungs were transplanted for a 57-year-old patient who was also in a critical condition, according to the Al-Arabiya website.
Five citizen patients benefited from brain-dead members in the city of Najran, where a medical team from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh, in cooperation with the medical team at Najran General Hospital, transferred the organs of the brain-dead citizen, and the operating room and medical procedures were prepared. The process took approximately 5 hours, during which the organs, which included the heart, liver, lung and kidneys, were transferred via a medical evacuation plane to 5 citizen patients in the city of Riyadh.
