Second installment of the 13th installment is smaller than the first due to INSS IR discounts (Credit: Arquivo/Agência Brasil)
This Monday (20) is the last day for companies to pay the second installment of the 13th salary to their employees. Unlike the first installment, which must have been paid by November 30, the second must be smaller, as it includes deductions in relation to Income Tax and the National Institute of Social Security (INSS).
To find out the value of the 13th salary, it is necessary to consider the number of months worked: whoever worked the 12 months of the year receives a full gross salary. Those who were hired after January 18 will receive proportionally to the months worked.

In other words, just divide the value of the gross salary by the 12 months and then multiply it by the number of months worked. The second installment of the 13th installment will be half of this amount minus deducted taxes.
Overtime, commissions, nighttime, hazardous and unhealthy additional hours must also be considered in the calculation.
INSS
The INSS discount follows a progressive table of rates ranging from 7.5% to 14% according to the salary received:
– Who earns up to R$1,100: 7.5%;
– Who earns between BRL 1,100.1 to BRL 2,203.48: 9%;
– Who earns between R$ 2,203.49 to R$ 3,305.22: 12%;
– Those who earn between more than R$ 3,305.23: 14%.
Those who earn a minimum wage (R$1,100) and have worked throughout the year can multiply the rate by the amount to find out how much they will pay the INSS: R$1,100 x 7.5% = R$82.50.
GO
– Who earns up to R$1,903.98 – exempt from income tax;
– Who earns between R$1,903.99 and R$2,826.65 – 7.5%;
– Who earns between BRL 2,826.66 and BRL 3,751.05 – 15%;
– Who earns between BRL 3,751.06 to BRL 4,664.68 – 22.5%;
– Who earns more than R$ 4,664.69 – 27.5%.
The same goes for the calculation of the Income Tax deduction: whoever earns, for example, R$ 2 thousand can multiply by 7.5% = R$ 150 of discount.
