The two Hypercars of the Gazoo Racing team are confirmed as the cars to beat, chased by Alpine and Glickenhaus. Among the Lmgte Pro Porsche snaps from the first box; the two AF Corse Ferraris are second and fourth
Two Toyota Hypercars will start from the first two places at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans: the race on Saturday 21 August from 4 pm. The Hyperpole crowns the GR010 Hybrid of Kamui Kobayashi, who sets the best lap time in 3: 23.900. While among the Gran Turismo class Lmgte Pro first the Porsche 911 Rsr-19 number 72 with Dries Vanthoor in front of the Ferrari 488 Gte Evo number 52 of Daniel Serra; fourth was the other Ferrari, the 51 driven in the “assault” on pole by James Calado.
First overall times in Hyperpole marked by Toyota GR010 Hybrid Gazoo Racing prototypes: first car number 7 of Kobayashi-Conway-Lopez, second team mates with number 8, Hartley (at the wheel) -Buemi-Nakajima (+0.295). Third was the Alpine A480 Gibson (+1.674); fourth and fifth position for the Glickenhaus 007 numbers 708 (+1.739) and 709 (+3.756).
As evidenced from the first laps of the track at Le Mans on the occasion of Test Day and the first free practice sessions, therefore, the challenge in the “premier” class promises to be very close – and therefore for the overall victory. “We came here to Le Mans for the first time with the new prototype and we had to constantly make changes and corrections to the car to improve performance: getting the Hyperpole is fantastic,” commented Kobayashi.
Among the prototypes of the Lmp2 cadet class best time trial signed by the Jota team car number 38: Antonio Felix Da Costa sets the best time (3: 27.950); according to the crew of number 41 (Orlen team Wrt) of Robert Kubica (+0.520) and in third position the crew number 65 (Panis Racing) 636 thousandths from the leader of the class.
Only twenty-first position at the start for Juan-Pablo Montoya (US Dragonspeed), who during free practice on Thursday afternoon was the victim of an accident (without consequences for the rider) with a car heavily damaged on the front.
From position number 25 the prototype number 49 (High Class) of Kevin Magnussen, crewed with his father Jan and Anders Fjordbach. Twenty-eighth was the female crew of prototype number 1 (Richard Mille) with Calderon-Floersch-Visser.
GRAN TURISMO: LMGTE PRO
The challenge between Porsche and Ferrari in the Lmgte Pro class is confirmed as “on”: the 911 Rsr-19 number 72 of Vanthoor-Parente-Martin (Hub Auto) conquers the Hyperpole with a time of 3: 46.882; second Ferrari 488 Gte Evo number 52 (AF Corse) of Serra-Molina-Bird (+0.181); third the Corvette C8 R number 64 of Milner-Tandy-Sims (+0.211); fourth the Rossa di Maranello number 51 of Pier Guidi-Calado-Ledogar (+0.365), ahead of the two Porsche GT Team cars, 91 and 92. “The second and fourth position are a good result for the team and we are satisfied – said Calado, at the wheel of the 51 in the hunt for pole position -. I think we need to find a couple of tenths in the race, but working on the set-up again, maybe we should be able to do it ”.
GRAND TOURISM: LMGTE AM
As for the abundant – in numerical terms – Lmgte Am class, three Porsches conquer the first three boxes: best time signed by number 88 (Dempsey-Proton) with Julien Andlauer, followed by number 86; third Matteo Cairoli with the number 56. Fourth position for the Ferrari 488 Gte Evo number 47 (Cetilar) of Fuoco-Lacorte-Sernagiotto. Seventh to start the Ferrari (Iron Lynx) number 80 of Ilott-Cressoni-Mastronardi; number 54 (AF Corse) of Giancarlo Fisichella is tenth in class.
