A new strike by airlines paralyzes the Italian skies. Today is expected to be a Black Tuesday for those who have to fly. The 24-hour strike mainly affects ground personnel. In fact, in airports with high traffic such as Milan Linate and Malpensa, Bologna, Bergamo Orio al Serio and Venice, ground handling and airport security workers will strike. The only exception is the protest by Adb workers at Bologna’s Marconi airport, which will last 4 hours, from 12 to 16. Ita Airways cancels 26 flights.
ENAC (National Civil Aviation Authority) reminds that strikes in the air transport sector are also subject to certain measures Guarantee bands: these are in force between 07:00 and 10:00 and between 18:00 and 21:00.
Passengers who have purchased an ITA Airways ticket to travel on September 24, the day of the air strike, in the event of cancellation or change of flight schedule, will be able to change the booking without any penalty or request a refund of the ticket (only in the event that the flight has been cancelled or has been delayed by more than 5 hours) no later than September 29.
The 24-hour strike of Wizzair pilots and flight attendants was proclaimed by Filt Cgil, explaining that ”after the first protest on September 7, there has been no progress on the issues we have denounced as the most representative trade union organization of male and female workers employed in Italy by the Hungarian company”. ”The strike – recalls the Cgil Transport Federation – was proclaimed due to the issuing and subsequent unilateral changes by Wizzair of a wage regulation without ever taking into consideration the requests and needs of its employees who are demanding a collective contract, as in other companies, and for the failure to comply with Italian regulations on health and safety”. ”Furthermore – finally reports Filt Cgil – we have reported to the Guarantee Commission a series of incorrect behaviors, implemented by the company in anticipation of the strike on September 24”.
