The season that has just ended, which at the end of last year had been imagined by many as a transitional year in view of the expected regulatory change in 2022, has instead transformed into one of the most balanced, spectacular and controversial championships in the history of Formula. 1. Now, after the crazy swing of emotions experienced in Abu Dhabi, it is really time to think about next year. The new single-seaters have actually been at the center of the reasoning of all the teams for many months now. With the exception of Mercedes and Red Bull, who came to compete for the world championship until the last meter of the last race, all the other teams have focused their attention almost exclusively on next year.
Inevitably, there will be many teams that will be disappointed, because the goal of all is to take advantage of the new technical regulation to reduce the gap with the two top teams. There Ferrari, most of all, he has loaded with expectations next season. Mattia Binotto’s mission is to bring the Maranello team back to success: it will not necessarily be mandatory to win the title, but to fight to win it. The reds, however, are not the only ones chasing a rebirth: McLaren, Alpine and Aston Martin, each with different ambitions, all aim to be protagonists next year.
On the Gazzetta dello Sport Andrea Cremonesi highlighted the highlights of the new rules, studied in the hope of widening the fight for the top to more teams. “[…] The main novelty […] is the return of the ground effect to make the cars less sensitive to the wake, in order to facilitate overtaking. To do this, we worked on the bottom, it will no longer be grooved, but characterized by two long Venturi channels. The flow deviators in front of the sides are banned, while the rear brake air intakes will no longer have fins and profiles for managing the flows. The cars will be heavier: from 752 it will go up to 790 kilos. Another striking novelty are the wheel covers. As far as engines are concerned, the main novelty will be the increase in bio-fuel […]: the goal is to reach zero emissions by 2030 […]”.
