Genesis is coming to Europe, hoping to gain a foothold in the premium segments currently dominated by the German Three. And for this, the luxury brand of Hyundai is counting on the GV70, an SUV that is now also offered with a 100% electric powertrain. The Genesis Electrified GV70, presented at the 2021 Guangzhou International Auto Exhibition in China, is also coming to our regions, as a competitor to the Audi E-Tron, the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes EQC. Sometime in 2023, we’re guessing.
The Genesis Electrified GV70 is an electric version of an existing model and is therefore not put on the modular e-GMP platform on which the Genesis GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, among others, build. Now the electric GV70 does have 800V technology, so you can quickly charge at 350 kW.
Specifications and driving range?
The specifications of the Genesis Electrified GV70 are no joke. The electric SUV relies on two electric motors with a system output of 490 hp and a combined maximum torque of 700 Nm, power that results in a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The driving range is between 450 and 460 kilometers, although it remains to be seen for an official WLTP figure.
Striking: the Genesis GV70 Electrified comes with an off-road mode for occasional mud fun. Equipped with DAS technology, short for Disconnector Actuator System, the SUV can partially disconnect the powertrain and thus switch from four-wheel to two-wheel drive (or vice versa). Genesis also talks about second-generation regenerative braking, which takes into account external factors such as traffic, driving habits and so on.
