The incident took place in the southern part of the Idlib escalation zone in the area of the village of Ruayha. Up to 70 militants were killed by the response fire of the Syrian government forces.
Earlier in May, militants from the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) opened fire on protesters who took to the streets of settlements in Al-Hasakah province. Local residents protested over the increase in fuel prices and, in particular, burned down the SDS checkpoint. In response, the militants took up arms to disperse the demonstrators and shot and killed five.
