Most of the tourists, who number between 17,500 and 20,000, are located in Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada, on the Red Sea, and some of them are in the resort of Marsa Alam, located to the south.
Yevvin Gubiev, deputy head of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Egypt, said that a small number of tourists traveled on their own, but the embassy is working with the Egyptian authorities and tourism companies to arrange the return of Ukrainians to Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
He added, “Many of them call and express their willingness to return and ask to return to fight the Russian soldiers,” explaining that the embassy is in charge of arranging the return to neighboring countries.
Gubiev said that Egypt, which has close relations with Russia, voted in favor of a resolution condemning the Russian attack at the United Nations General Assembly, and is now allowing Ukrainians to stay in three-star hotels for free, as long as they need to.
He added, “We expect the European countries to give us the green light to receive them… Our allies are working there to determine the airports that can receive Ukrainians coming from Egypt.”
