Japanese authorities have arrested a person suspected of attacking passengers on a train in Tokyo with a knife and setting it on fire, local media reported, indicating that 17 people were injured, one of them seriously.
Kyodo news agency reported that 15 people were injured, while public television NHK said that the attack left 17 wounded, one of whom is 60 years old, and seriously injured.
A video clip filmed inside the train and posted on Twitter showed panicked passengers running on the train to escape the flames and smoke rising from the carriages.
Another video circulated on Twitter showed passengers fleeing the windows of a train that had stopped at a station in Tokyo’s western suburbs.
Media reports said the alleged attacker, believed to be in his twenties, attacked people with a knife and set fire to a fire after pouring an as yet unidentified substance into the train. He has been arrested for attempted murder.
