Three days after the violent pitched battle that occurred during the match between Querétaro and Atlas at the Corregidora Stadium and impacted the entire world, the first arrests have been made in Mexico. The Querétaro Prosecutor’s Office reported early this Tuesday of the arrest of the first 14 people, all men, guilty of the savage scenes of violence that left 26 injured. The authorities took as evidence more than 580 videos, photographs and the testimony of witnesses. In the early hours of this Tuesday, 10 suspects were arrested and, hours later, another four were added.
Since Monday night, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that it had obtained at least 21 arrest warrants against the alleged aggressors and also to be able to search their homes. The charges against the first 10 radical fans are attempted murder, violence at sports events and advocacy of crime. The subjects have been identified as “Jesús N”, “José Alfredo N”, “Iván N”, “Jonathan Carlos N”, “Víctor N”, “Adrián N”, “Juan Manuel N”, “Eduardo N” and “ Edgar Emmanuel N. One of the four arrested in the afternoon was delivered by his own mother, according to the authorities.
The authorities added that during the police operation they found 82 sports clothes from the Querétaro soccer club, 22 mobile phones and four pairs of sneakers “with possible blood stains,” according to the official statement.
The Secretary of the Government of Querétaro, Guadalupe Murguía, commented that in order to register the arrest warrants, “about 400 videos” were analyzed. The Prosecutor’s Office, for its part, stated that 583 images, 78 videos and recordings from surveillance cameras have been analyzed, and that they received more than a thousand messages with anonymous information.
94% of unsolved crimes
In Mexico, indignation and impunity have gone hand in hand in the last two decades. 94% of crimes are not resolved, according to a balance of Mexico Evalúa. There is no day in which the Mexican newspapers report a murder or disappearance. The images of violence in real time that were seen from the stands of the soccer field horrified the country in crisis of security. Women, children, the elderly and men were hit by blows, mainly from Querétaro’s brave bars.
EL PAÍS confirmed that knives were introduced into the stadium last Sunday due to the lack of security. According to the club’s president, Gabriel Solares, there were only 600 agents on match day for a stadium that has a capacity for more than 34,000 fans. The security company, called K-9 and which acted in other massive events in the State, has been suspended by the Government.
They also suspended five public officials, including the director of police operations, Leonardo Flores; the person in charge of the Field Unit, Agustín Martínez; the events coordinator and commissioner for the match between Querétaro and Atlas, Carlos Mendoza; and the person in charge of Civil Protection Risk Management, Carlos Toscado.
