The Afghanistan Disaster Management Authority announced that 14 people died due to floods during the past three days. The Afghan Tolo Channel quoted the authority’s spokesman, Janan Saiq, as saying that as a result of the floods and rains that struck 14 provinces, 140 residential homes were destroyed and more than 2,000 heads of livestock died.
He added, “During the past three days, due to the rain, 14 citizens died, and one person was missing. 140 homes were completely or partially damaged.” Mohammad Ashraf, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, also announced that some roads in Badakhshan, Takhar, Jor and Nuristan provinces have become closed due to landslides and floods.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Refugees in Afghanistan announced yesterday that more than a thousand families in Ghor Province in the center of the country were forced to flee their homes due to heavy rains and floods during the past days. The floods destroyed homes and agricultural lands, according to what the ministry said.
The Afghan Tolo TV channel quoted the National Disaster Management Authority as saying the day before yesterday that at least 14 people had died due to the floods.
It is noteworthy that Afghanistan has witnessed heavy snow and rain during the past months, causing deaths and injuries. Meteorologists have warned that severe weather phenomena such as floods and drought are becoming more frequent in Afghanistan and Pakistan due to climate change.
