A 12-year-old girl was the victim of a gang rape in a suburb of Paris, a crime for which a group of teenagers were formally accused on Tuesday night (18).
In addition to physical violence, the teenager was also the target of a series of anti-Semitic insults, according to French authorities.
The Nanterre prosecutor’s office charged two 13-year-olds with rape, death threats, insults and anti-Semitic violence. Another 12 were declared “assisted witnesses” to the rape and charged with other crimes.
The shocking episode gained prominence in the campaign for the legislative elections in France this Wednesday (19).
Right-wing leader Marine Le Pen linked the crime to what she called the left’s “stigmatization of Jews” in a statement on her X social media account.
Le Pen claimed that “the explosion of anti-Semitic acts, which have increased by 300% compared to the first three months of 2023, should alert all French people: the stigmatization of Jews for months by the left through the instrumentalization of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a real threat to civil peace”.
“Everyone will have to be fully aware on June 30 and July 7,” he said, referring to the dates of the legislative elections in which his party, Reagrupamento Nacional (RN), leads the polls.
In this way, therefore, she took direct aim at Unsubmissive France (LFI), which has been the target of much criticism for its attitude towards the war in the Gaza Strip and, in particular, for its refusal to classify Hamas as a terrorist group, although its coalition agreement with other left-wing parties classifies the attacks against Israel on October 7 as “terrorist”.
