12 Emirati universities were ranked among the top 1,000 universities in the world, according to the QS Global Ranking, a British higher education analytics company, including six universities among the top 500 universities, and two universities among the top 300 universities in the world. In detail, the QS classification for the year 2025 included Khalifa University ranked 202nd globally, the United Arab Emirates University ranked 261st, the American University of Sharjah ranked 332nd, the University of Sharjah 434th, Ajman University 477th, and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah ranked 485th. Abu Dhabi University 501, Canadian University in Dubai 523, Al Ain University 552, American University in Dubai ranked between 621-630, Zayed University 621-630, in addition to the University of Dubai 851-900.
Nine Emirati universities achieved progress in their positions at the global level in the 2025 classification, compared to the 2024 classification, as Khalifa University advanced 28 places, UAE University 29 places, the University of Sharjah 31 places, Ajman University 74 places, Abu Dhabi University 79 places, and the Canadian University 28 places. centre, Al Ain University 59 centres, and Zayed University 80 centres.
The new classification, “QS 2025,” included more than 1,500 higher education institutions, and it is the only classification of its kind that confirms employability and sustainability. The Quacquarelli Symonds Foundation indicated that the weight of the sustainability index reached 5% in the classification, to reflect the crucial role that universities play in charting the course and driving change towards a more sustainable future, while the weight of the employer’s reputation was increased to 15%, and 5% was added to the employment results. QS remains the only major classification that enshrines the importance of employability in its methodology, pointing out that the International Research Network scale is another way to recognize the importance of research in changing the world. This metric in particular provides insight into how internationally connected an institution’s research is, as well as recognition of the importance of collaborative research more broadly.
