116 killed in floods and landslides in India and Nepal

More than 100 people have been killed in several days of floods and landslides in India and Nepal, officials said Wednesday, with dozens still missing.
In Uttarakhand, in northern India, officials said 46 people had been killed in recent days, with 11 missing. In Kerala in the south, state chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the death toll there had reached 39.
At least thirty of those who died in Uttarakhand were killed in seven separate accidents in the Nainital region early Tuesday after heavy rains caused landslides and collapsed several buildings.
Five of the dead were from the same family, whose house was swamped by rain due to landslides, said local official Pradeep Jain.
In Nepal, “In the past three days, 31 people have been killed by floods and landslides caused by heavy rains across the country. 43 people are missing,” said Humkala Pande, an official of the Disaster Management Department.
“It is still raining in several places, and we are still collecting the outcome, which may rise further,” he added.
