In today’s list we review ten curiosities of the still center forward of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who is being one of the sensations of the Olympic Games in men’s football and who could come out with a contract until 2022.
The interesting facts that we tell you are the following:
Rafael Mir’s career began playing futsal in Javalí Nuevo, a team from the Murcian district where just over 3,000 inhabitants live. The most outstanding step in this sport was the 2006-07 season, at the age of 9, eventually playing in the quarry of one of the best teams in the National Futsal League.
He made the change to grass football at the hands of Ranero, a club from the Murcian district with the same name and place of birth of the player. Between 2007 and 2009 he showed sufficient capacities so that, at the age of 12, the Barça team incorporated him into their lower categories.
After two years at Can Barça, he would spend one at Real Murcia before arriving at the Valencia subsidiary, where he had a record between 2012 and 2018. There he began to leave some more than interesting figures, but we will see that later.
He was able to play eight games with Valencia between the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, but his contribution did not exceed a few sporadic minutes, reaching the figure of 226 with three starts.
The English team offered 2 million for him, in a further connection between the club and a person represented by Jorge Mendes, taking over his services in January 2018. Since then, he has been loaned to Las Palmas, Nottingham Forest and Huesca , playing four games with the Wolves and having a contract until 2022.
In first teams where he has not been in the form of a loan, he has not been able to see the goal, something that he did achieve in the Valencia subsidiary. Neither at the Mestalla nor with the Wolverhampton Wanderers has he managed to see the goal. Yes he has achieved it in Huesca and Las Palmas.
His best figures came in the Valencia subsidiary and Huesca, with 25 goals in 59 and 57 games, respectively. Precisely his performance during the loan in the Aragonese team has helped him to revalue, as we will see later.
The competition between quarries of top-level clubs helps to discover many interesting talents and their participation in it was not in vain. In the 2015-16 season, Mestalla’s men fell in the round of 16, but Rafael Mir left his mark with 6 goals and 3 assists in 7 games. He was the sixth highest scorer of that edition.
With its rise from March to June, which has been from 6 to 12 million, it is the fifth Spanish with the highest increase (100%) in a national first division. He is surpassed by Mario González (from 0.3 to 3M and 900%), Abdón Prats (from 0.6 to 2M and 233.3%), Fernando Niño (from 1 to 3M and 200%) and Hugo Duro ( from 1.8 to 5M and 177.8%).
June 18, 1997 was the day that Rafael Mir came into the world, the same day that in other years brought us celebrities such as the journalist María Teresa Campos (1941), the singers Paul McCartney (1942) and Raffaella Carrà (1943 ), the coaches Fabio Capello (1946) and Miguel Ángel Lotina (1957) or the footballers Pierre-Émerick Aubameyang (1989) and Alen Halilovic (1996).
